WCFC Supporter Director joins the Board
Over the summer, Worcester City Supporters’ Trust gained their first elected member on the board of the Football Club. Mike Davis explains what made him take up this important position.

My Dad first brought me to watch City in the 1945/46 season. We sat in the old main stand; I have a vivid memory of them playing in sky blue but not much more. I remember names like Bert Rogers, Johnny Summers and Jack Shelton. I’ve been coming to SGL ever since, with short breaks for college, four years living and working in North Wales and then London.
Most of the rest of my working days were spent near Redditch where my wife and I had a Garden Centre. Consequently, I was much better known there than I am here. Me and my two children would have one trip to Valley Stadium each season when City were playing, we got used to the abuse! My favourite, after the three of us celebrated a Worcester goal, was “I hope your f…g tomatoes rot!”
My involvement with the Trust began at the County ground meeting. I was curious to find out what that small band of “agitators” had to say. Being an outsider it seemed strange to me that there should be any criticism when SGL had been sold for a lot of money and a new Stadium would be built in 3 years. I left the meeting realising that they weren’t just rocking the boat without good reason.
Surely it’s impossible now for anyone to argue with the case they made that night. More importantly, those same supporters are still around; no longer “agitating“ but working in harmony with the Board of Directors to help keep City in business. I’m proud to be associated with them and to have been chosen to be the first Supporters’ representative on the Board.
This is a big step forward in improving the relationship between the Trust and the club with supporters’ views being taken into consideration at the highest level and being given the consideration they deserve; I will do my utmost to be the fans' voice at Board level and act as an advocate for all supporters to ensure Worcester City Football Club has a long, and hopefully prosperous, future.
If you haven’t done so already, come and join us. We have one aim, to keep WCFC in existence and make it a better club. If you see me and would like to talk about anything which affects the Club, please introduce yourself.
