Working towards a better future for Worcester City

Recent collaboration between the Supporters’ Trust and the board of WCFC has led to a much improved feeling of positivity around the club. This means all involved can look to the future together to try and ensure the club has a better chance of making through these difficult times and provide a sustainable way forward; any new way of working needs to be based around greater inclusiveness and community interaction.

A football club can and should be a key component in its local community, not merely a passive organ restricted to its supporters. Most of us would say that in one way or another WCFC is already a community club, but we feel that the time is right to cement these values and use them to our advantage. It's time to give the club back to the people that care about it the most – the fans.

To be big in football, we first need to be big in the community!

With this in mind we decided to see how other clubs have made this community focused way of working a success. Together with the City board, Lord Faulkner of Worcester and a representative from Worcester City council we took a trip up to take a look at the workings of AFC Telford.  We met up with Trust member Lee Carter who gave us a complete run down of all the work they do  in conjunction with the council to benefit the football club and the town.
We saw how the partnership opportunities really do work: community clubs are better-placed to work in partnership with local authorities, businesses and community groups. For example with the help of their local authority AFC Telford have created the Telford Football & Sports Foundation: a not for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people living in and around the Telford area.

It’s a tremendous set up there and a terrific example of what can be achieved when the chips are down. We all left Telford with a renewed sense of enthusiasm that there is light at the end of the tunnel if we can work together to make Worcester City
